Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) is very pleased to welcome 120 Community Action Day volunteers to its’ east end communities, Donald Court and Russell Gardens. The volunteers and OCH tenants will kick into action on Thursday, December 5, by painting the hallways throughout these two buildings.
Community Action Days are coordinated by United Way Ottawa and Volunteer Ottawa, connecting workplace teams of volunteers with community organizations in a collaborative volunteer project. The organizations taking part in the 2013 OCH project include teams from: Bank of Canada, Chipworks, Ericsson, MD Physician Services, TD Bank and Toromont Caterpillar. Corporate sponsors for this event include Benjamin Moore, who made a cash donation toward the project costs along with discounted paint and supplies, and Tim Hortons, Pizza Pizza and Lorenzo’s Pizza.
“Community Action Day is loaded with benefits for both the volunteers and for the people who call OCH home, said Councillor Marianne Wilkinson, Chair of the OCH Board of Directors.” The volunteers deliver a much appreciated service and get to know OCH, its communities and residents, and the residents get freshly painted hallways and to feel a part of the spirit of giving.”
Media are invited to attend the event. At 9:15 a.m. a welcome ceremony with special guest speakers will take place at 255 Donald Street and at 9:45 a.m. at 2080 Russell Road;
