OTTAWA, December 14, 2017 – Ottawa Community Housing has issued the following statement regarding the fire that occurred early morning on Wednesday December 13,2017 at 1455 Heatherington Rd. in the Albion-Heatherington community.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the person who perished in this tragic fire and the entire Albion-Heatherington community during this difficult time.

Safety of residents is top priority for OCH. Staff were on site immediately after learning about the fire to support residents. OCH also engaged partners from the Red Cross and Options Bytown to provide further support and assistance to residents in the building and the community.

We are grateful to our partners, Ottawa Fire Services for their quick action in putting out the fire and Ottawa Paramedic Service for treating two other persons at the scene.

The fire was contained to one home on the fifth floor and no other homes were damaged by the fire. OCH is fully cooperating with the investigation being led by Ottawa Fire Services and the Ontario Fire Marshall.

Information on the cause of the fire or the estimated cost of the damages to the home where the fire occurred are usually provided by the Ontario Fire Marshall following the investigation.
