For Immediate Release: Ottawa Community Housing Corporation (OCH) is passionate about supporting its employees to create healthy, safe and inclusive communities for about 32,000 tenants. That is one of the many reasons it’s been named one of the National Capital Region’s Top Employers for 2018.

“Our people are dedicated to changing lives,” said OCH CEO Stéphane Giguère. “It’s a privilege and honour to be named one of the top employers and to highlight our talented team and continued innovation that make us an exceptional workplace.”

Now in its 13th year, the National Capital Region’s Top Employers is a special designation that recognizes employers throughout the Ottawa-Gatineau area that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.

Employers are evaluated on eight criteria: Physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.

OCH employees are instrumental in providing support and services to more than 160 diverse local communities and the management team works tirelessly to provide its staff with an environment where they can work, grow, learn and share their passion for helping others.

In 2017 OCH staff volunteered for a collective 430 hours at food banks, homeless shelters and other agencies that serve disadvantaged residents.

“We are so proud of our team’s achievements,” said Giguère.  He adds, “Recently, three employees have been recognized in their field of expertise. One was national recognition as a sustainability leader and the other two were for lifetime achievement and human resource excellence. “

Among other accomplishments, OCH is a leader in energy conservation. It was awarded the Canadian Housing Renewal Association’s 2016 Sustainability Award for its Suite Green Retrofit initiative, which has reduced water consumption by 40 per cent across all of its communities.

“As City Councillor and Chair of the board of Ottawa Community Housing (OCH), I am proud of the organization to be named a top employer for the Ottawa-Gatineau region. This nomination recognizes OCH as a great place to work and is a testament to the passion of our team as a landlord and in supporting the tenants”, said Councillor Mathieu Fleury.

The OCH team has launched many innovative programs and is dedicated to providing tenants with meaningful opportunities to succeed and create brighter futures.

“Staff are truly proud to work at Ottawa Community Housing” said Giguère. “Our team is changing lives at OCH.”
