On Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24, volunteers from the Ottawa Young Construction Leaders (OYCL) will be giving a helping hand to Ottawa Community Housing tenants at 300 Lacasse Avenue. Over a two day period, the OYCL volunteers will be building a gazebo on the grounds of this high rise building which is home to 190 seniors.

The skilled professionals from OYCL are providing the labour and tools and, in addition, have designed the structure and helped source the materials at a reasonable cost. This is the third annual OCH community improvement event by volunteers from OYCL.

“We are very appreciative of the partnership forged with the Ottawa Young Construction Leaders – their enthusiasm and commitment to our communities is outstanding,” comments Councillor Marianne Wilkinson, OCH Board Chair. “The gazebo will be used and enjoyed by our tenants for many years to come.”

Media are invited to attend the event. A celebratory ceremony and BBQ luncheon will take place on Friday, May 24 at noon with special guest speakers Councillor Marianne Wilkinson, Councillor Mathieu Fleury and OCH CEO Jo-Anne Poirier. The BBQ will be held on the grounds at 300 Lacasse Avenue.
