OCHC CEO Stéphane Giguère made the following statement following the launch of the 2018 Canadian Rental Housing Index:

“This week, a national partnership of housing organizations launched the 2018 Canadian Rental Housing Index. The Index will reveal crucial data on the state of rental housing affordability impacting families in communities across Canada by providing a snapshot of rental housing costs, renter income, affordability trends, and overcrowding from the data received through the 2016 Census.

This critical information is needed to better understand and confirm affordable housing needs here in Ottawa and across the country. With millions of data figures, this Index provides a multifaceted view of housing affordability to help inform government and housing providers decisions towards a more sustainable housing sector in the future.

OCHC would like to extend congratulations to the leadership of the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, Vancity credit union and all their partners in the launch of this 2018 program. This will help OCHC and partners in Ottawa, and across the country, better understand the affordable housing needs of Canadians and inform OCHC’s portfolio renewal strategy going forward .”
