Wednesday, December 11th, 2019 (OTTAWA, ON) – Following Ottawa City Council’s adoption of the 2020 Budget earlier today, Ottawa Community Housing Corporation (OCHC) has issued the following statement:

Ottawa Community Housing Corporation wishes to thank Mayor Watson and Council for their continued leadership on the issue of affordable housing. The 2020 Budget includes an investment of an additional $15 million by the City into housing this year and is a step in the right direction in helping Ottawa individuals and families in need of an affordable place to call home.

OCHC stands ready to work with the City of Ottawa in the development of more safe, quality, and affordable homes for our city, while also continuing to invest in renewing our existing portfolio.

Our project at 811 Gladstone Avenue is an innovative project featuring a total of 140 affordable homes, including Canada’s largest residential Passive House building, new townhomes, and engaging amenity spaces for tenants. This will be a mixed community, attracting tenants of diverse backgrounds and of all ages. This represents the future of housing in Ottawa – affordable, sustainable, and engaging.

The OCHC Chief Executive Officer, Stéphane Giguère, added: “I want to thank Mayor Watson and Council members for supporting the significant investments made in this Budget towards building new affordable homes for our city. OCHC is continuing to build innovative housing and partnering with the City to turn these dollars into homes for those in need, while continuing to invest in the renewal of our existing portfolio of approximately 15,000 homes.”
