Community Safety Services now available 24/7

The CSS team now operates 24 hours per day.

Until the switch in February, Safety Workers had been working shifts that left a four-hour gap between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon.
“Now they are able to respond to calls for tenants and work with internal staff and community partners to provide safety services,” said CSS Director Nathan Hoedeman.

Seven full-time staff, two part-time staff and one Coordinator will be at work every day.
Chris Strotmann, who has been on the job for 11 years, said he’s excited to start the new schedule.
“It’s been a long time coming,” he said. “It will allow us to engage more with tenants, and have a better work-life balance.”

As part of the move, Safety Workers who normally work nights will get a chance to rotate, meaning they get to spend more time with family and more time interacting with tenants during daylight hours.

As part of the shift in service delivery, the CSS office has moved from the main building on Auriga to the Caldwell Avenue office.

The change will allow the team to be closer to the communities they serve. Caldwell was picked because it’s geographic location makes it easier to travel to other OCH communities.
