Richelieu Court Almost Ready To Accept New Tenants
A major renovation to the Richelieu Court community will be complete in early 2021. Staff expect to start welcoming new tenants by the summer.
The $2.4 million investment in the property will change the makeup of the neighbourhood – turning it into a place for families. The monies were made available through the Community Reinvestment Fund. It exists to support redevelopment projects in our communities.
OCH purchased the property from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in 2009. When demolition began in late 2018, the L-shaped building contained 30 one-bedroom apartments with a bungalow out front. The homes were at the end of their life. The redevelopment replaces those homes with 15 three-bedroom stacked townhomes – increasing the bedroom count to 45 overall.
Unforeseen circumstances in the construction schedule, including interruptions caused by the pandemic, delayed the completion of the project.
However, the work is back on track and coming along well. Site landscaping will be completed in the spring of 2021.
The revitalized community will offer much-needed affordable housing for families. The plans also include downsizing the parking lot to make way for more green space and a playground.
Re-investing in our communities is a key part of OCH’s long-term plan for the management of our properties.
