On June 11, Ottawa Community Housing shared its 2024 Annual Report to the Ottawa City Council.

The themes focus on building new affordable homes, renovating and improving existing homes, and supporting tenants.

Why does this matter to you?

Learning about what OCH is working on helps you understand what is happening in your community and the city.

New Homes are Coming

In 2024, OCH:

  • Purchased 311 townhomes from Minto in the city’s west end.
  • Started building Gladstone Village – to be completed in 2027, and add 336 new affordable homes
  • Continued construction on Mosaïq Phase 2and will add 273 homes. We anticipate that construction will be completed by 2026.
  • A new development in Shearwater Court has commenced, adding 45 homes.

Improving your Homes

OCH teams worked together to renovate lobbies and common areas in 10 communities. Tenants chose paint colours and flooring. Look for before-and-after photos of some new projects in the tenant newsletter and on social media this year.

In the Strathcona communities, we completed a multi-year renewal of 49 homes on Sentier Private, Wiggins Private, Chapel Street and Mann Avenue. The work included:

  • New energy-efficient windows and balcony doors
  • Replacing old balconies and stucco walls
  • Repairing stairs and landings.

Making Homes more efficient and keeping communities clean

  • We installed 115 heat pumps, which added cooling capabilities and reduced electricity costs.
  • Installed LED lights in 4,600 households, making homes brighter and more energy efficient.
  • Added organic waste diversion (composting) to 30 OCH Communities – helping to save space in the city’s landfill and keep communities cleaner.

Every day work that makes a difference

  • 1,212 new individuals and families were welcomed into OCH homes.
  • 342,000 calls handled by the Call Centre
  • 133,000 service requests – pest management and maintenance completed.

We hope this provides you with a breakdown of OCH’s work. It’s just a snapshot of the work OCH staff and partners do every day to build better communities and make a difference in your lives. Read the full report here: https://bit.ly/OCH-2024-Annual-Report
