The Peer-Assisted Community Engagement Program is another tool in the toolbox to support OCH residents, said one resident hired as a Peer Support Worker with Options Bytown.

The PACE program was launched on March 7 at OCH’s MacManor building. The program will be operating in seven Ottawa Community Housing buildings. All tenants living in these seven buildings may access one-on-one support from the PACE program or can benefit from the activities and programs that the PACE program helps facilitate, such as coffee social hours and fruit & veggies programs.

The program will focus on buildings with high needs for mental health support.

“We all do better when we are part of a community. Having a peer by your side when you’re facing a crisis or a challenge can make a real difference and this is what PACE provides to tenants in these buildings,” said Catharine Vandelinde, Executive Director of Options Bytown.

Chantal, a peer support worker who lives in the east end, said her lived experience provides insight into some of the challenges other residents face.

Options Bytown is a trusted OCH partner, offering support and resources to tenants – which helps preserve successful tenancies and build better communities.

“OCH is committed to working to address tenants’ complex care needs through innovation and partnerships. Together we can create healthy, safe and inclusive communities,” said Stéphane Giguère, Chief Executive Officer of OCH
