Oct. 24, OTTAWA, ON – More than 2,400 Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) residents will soon enjoy a better Lowertown Good Neighbours Community House. On October 28, REALTORS® from across Canada will renovate the community house kitchen, build programming furniture and organize a new clothes closet, helping to create a more welcoming and functional environment for residents.

In a strong show of community commitment, the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) is donating $10,000 on behalf of its REALTOR® members to cover the costs of the kitchen renovation. This kitchen serves as an essential gathering spot where residents can meet, connect, and receive support. The upgrades will make it easier for everyone to enjoy meals, activities, and a greater sense of community. The kitchen installation is the final enhancement in a month-long revitalization of the community house on the main floor and lower level.

Volunteers will have spent three days advocating on Parliament Hill for Canadians across the housing spectrum as part of CREA’s Political Action Committee (PAC) Days conference. To close out their time in Ottawa, REALTORS® will roll up their sleeves at the community house, turning their advocacy into immediate impact for Lowertown residents.

Agenda

1:45 p.m.: Volunteers arrive

2:00 p.m.: Work begins (action shots: setting up clothes closet, assembling furniture)

4:55 p.m.:  Work wraps up

Note: Interviews will be available with:

  • Matthew Beutel, Executive Director, Lowertown Community Resource Centre
  • Mehdi Louzouaz, Manager of Volunteer Engagement, OCH
  • Kae Roberts, Vice President of Community and Tenant Support, OCH.
  • Valérie Paquin, Chair of the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA)

Representatives from the Canadian Real Estate Association and residents will also be available to share their stories. The project offers compelling visuals, with a dedicated team of volunteers assembling cabinetry and organizing programming spaces — bringing hope and vibrancy to the community.
