Tenant Spotlight: Neighbours Who Lead the Way

Your safety, health, and community well-being are important. And we know some of you, or your neighbours, face certain challenges that can’t be solved with a one-sized fits all approach.
That is why OCH started what is now known as the Complex Care Housing Strategy in 2023. The Strategy brings together partners who work in and for our communities to give extra support to tenants who need it most, right where they live. We wanted solutions that came from those who knew what those challenges felt like.
That’s why, as part of our work, we asked for the help of four amazing tenants. Stephen, Brandy, Chantal, and Danny have been leaders in this work since the beginning. Every month for the past two years, they have met with OCH and partners to bring YOUR voices to the table.
“It’s simple. We don’t do it for awards or recognition. “We show up to better our communities,” Chantal said.
Together, these tenant volunteers bring decades of experience of living and getting involved in OCH communities. On top of attending monthly meetings, they share ideas, bring feedback from OCH tenants back to us and our partners.
Because of Stephen, Brandy, Chantal, and Danny, the Complex Care Housing Strategy ensures the programs being developed reflect what tenants need. Their leadership and insight ensure that every program we design keeps tenant voices, realities, and well-being at the heart of our work. OCH is transforming spaces across our communities to bring in health and social services, and the four tenant champions have advised on the way those spaces look and feel. From wall colours to the division of space and the choice of furniture, they have helped us land on environments that are functional, welcoming, beautiful, and grounded in the reality of tenants with complex needs.
