(OTTAWA) March 22, 2016 – Ottawa Community Housing Corporation (OCH) welcomed today’s Federal announcement and its commitment to invest in social infrastructure.

Affordable housing and homelessness are important social concerns for Canadians. Having a safe, affordable home means a greater chance for a healthy and successful life. For over 40 years, OCH has conducted a variety of initiatives that strengthen its position as a leader amongst social housing providers in Canada to deliver social and affordable housing for the residents of Ottawa.

OCH is ready to move forward on infrastructure investment opportunities.   The newly released 10-year strategic plan aligns with government investments in affordable housing as well as promoting sustainable green communities. OCH’s portfolio renewal strategy encourages a more sustainable affordable housing model and will contribute to stimulating the economy including job creation.

Ottawa Community Housing has been proactive and innovative in introducing solutions and an approach to renew and improve social housing. With our tools and proactive planning we have never been more ready to respond to federal opportunities to renew and build affordable housing in mix-income and multi-use properties.

– Councillor Mathieu Fleury, Chair of the OCH Board of Directors

While the City of Ottawa has shown great support to OCH over the years, the need for the Federal and Provincial government to continue investing in social housing remains critical. Today’s budget confirms the Government of Canada’s continued role and commitment to affordable and social housing; reiterating its crucial role in supporting the renewal of our communities, and to Canadians in need.

– Stéphane Giguère, OCH’s Chief Executive Officer
