More Than a BBQ: A Celebration of Community 

Being involved in your community is a great way to share your voice and make connections.  

There is something special about coming together with your neighbours. Sharing a meal, talking, and having fun can help a community feel like home. 

That is what happened at 616 Kirkwood on July 30. More than 100 tenants and community members came together for a community BBQ. 

The event was made possible by many community partners. Ottawa Community Housing, Aging in Place, Caldwell Family Centre, Carlington Community Health Centre, West Village Church and Ottawa Public Health all helped make the day happen. They brought food, supplies, time, and energy. They also had a chance to meet tenants and share information about the services they offer. 

But the best part of the day was the tenants. Neighbours shared food, talked, laughed, and met new people.   

The BBQ showed what is possible when people work together.  Joy made dessert for the whole group! Other tenant volunteers planned and served food, making it easier to bring everyone together.  

Thank you to all the tenants who joined and to every partner who helped make the day special.
