Morrison Gardens Community House Gets a New Look 

The Morrison Gardens Community House has been updated to make it safer, easier to use and more welcoming for residents. 

The building was renovated with changes that will help support programs, activities and gatherings for the community. 

Did tenants help plan the changes? 

Yes. Tenants shared their ideas about what was important for the Community House.  

Students from Carleton University’s Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism met with tenants to learn what they wanted to see in the updated space.  

What’s new? 

The Community House now has: 

• A new kitchen 

• A new accessible washroom  

• More outdoor space for children’s programs, summer events, and community gatherings. 

How will this help residents? 

The updated space gives residents and community partners more room for programs, activities, and events. 

The kitchen can support community meals, cooking activities, and food programs. 

The larger space will provide more room for programs like after-school activities and the homework club. 

Why Is this important? 

The Community House is a place where neighbours come together. 

Residents can join programs, share meals, learn new skills, and connect with others close to home. 

Every year, the Community House welcomes about 22,500 visits. The food bank is open three days each week to help residents. 

Who helped make this happen? 

Many people worked together to update this important community space. 

Partners, donors, staff, and volunteers all helped make this project possible.  

Tenants also shared their ideas about the space. Tenant leaders supported the application for a grant from OCH’s Community Capital Fund.
