Largest acquisition in OCH’s history protects an important supply of family-sized rental housing

OTTAWA – September 17, 2026 – Ottawa Community Housing has completed the acquisition of 503 rental homes from Minto, protecting these homes as part of Ottawa’s long-term affordable housing supply and providing continued housing stability for hundreds of individuals and families.
The transaction is the largest acquisition in OCH’s history and ranks among the top non-profit affordable housing acquisitions in Canada. It demonstrates OCH’s leadership in preserving affordable housing at scale. It reflects the growing importance of preserving and protecting existing affordable housing as part of the housing solution.
The landmark acquisition brings 73 townhouse blocks, for a total of 369 townhomes, and two apartment buildings into OCH’s portfolio. Of the 503 homes, 491 have two or more bedrooms, protecting an important source of family-sized rental housing in a well-connected Ottawa neighbourhood.
Under OCH’s ownership, existing tenants can remain in their homes and continue to be part of the neighbourhood, schools, services and support networks they know. These homes will continue to provide an affordable housing option for current and future residents.
Strategic Milestone in Preserving Affordability
With the addition of these 503 homes, OCH has acquired 962 homes since 2010 as part of its long-term strategy to preserve affordable housing and strengthen Ottawa’s affordable housing supply.
Strategic acquisitions complement OCH’s ongoing investments in new affordable housing development and community renewal. At a time when adequate rental housing is increasingly difficult to find, protecting existing homes is essential to the housing solution. By bringing these 503 homes into long-term community ownership, OCH is preserving existing affordable housing while continuing to create new housing across Ottawa.
These homes will remain part of OCH’s long-term portfolio. OCH will support residents through the transition and continue investing in these communities’ long-term success.
OCH will operate the newly acquired homes through ARRIV Properties, its affordable-rental offering for low- and moderate-income households. ARRIV is part of OCH’s range of housing options and provides rental homes at average or below-average market rents.
