A New Era of Affordable and Sustainable Housing in Ottawa

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, October 16th, 2023 – Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) is proud to announce the groundbreaking of 273 affordable homes. This next phase of Mosaïq Ottawa at 820 Gladstone Avenue will redefine affordable housing in the city and set a new standard for sustainability, design, and community benefits. HEIN, a leading construction firm, and Hobin Architecture, renowned for innovative design, have been awarded contracts for this phase of construction.

Mosaïq Ottawa’s community will provide a total of 413 affordable homes, once this next phase of 273 homes is complete.

Mosaïq Ottawa at 820 Gladstone encompasses 2.7 acres of prime urban space in Ottawa’s Centretown. It will feature mid-rise residential buildings along Gladstone and Rochester, complemented by low-rise townhomes along Booth, offering a harmonious blend of housing options. The design offers a range of housing options and focuses on indoor and outdoor amenities, convenient parking, bicycle facilities, storage lockers, and a central park.

This phase of Mosaïq Ottawa embodies OCH’s commitment to community and will include non-residential spaces dedicated to commercial rentals, community services, and innovative work/live units. It is also an environmentally responsible development that integrates Passive House design and sustainable features to minimize energy costs and carbon footprint. It also prioritizes seniors, accessibility, and barrier-free housing.

Through this latest development, OCH continues to be a trusted and effective partner in building affordable housing and remains committed to providing more than a home for people in Ottawa.

“Hobin Architecture is an architectural firm based in Ottawa, specializing in the design of progressive residential, commercial and institutional new-build projects.  They’re an award-winning firm with some 40 professionals supporting private and public sector builds, known for their positive site, neighbourhood, and city-building impacts.  OCH has enjoyed Hobin’s architectural design services on the first phase of Mosaïq Ottawa (completed in 2022) and again for the second phase of construction of  Mosaïq Ottawa, a 273-unit project with two 9-storey buildings and three blocks of townhomes, for which construction has just begun.  OCH and Hobin are joining forces with HEIN, a well-established local constructor, to advance this new-build project, which will be completed and achieve occupancy in 2026.”
