Meet Roger, Bellevue Manor’s “Candy Man”

If you have ever been to a community event at Bellevue Manor and seen someone covered in cotton candy, you have probably met Roger.
Roger has lived at Bellevue Manor for more than 15 years. During the pandemic, he wanted to feel more connected to others. After talking with his Community Developers, he realized he did not have to wait for change. He could help make it happen.
So he did.
When he was younger, Roger worked at travelling carnivals. He learned how to run cotton candy and snow cone machines. Now he uses those skills at community events. Neighbours call him the “candy man.” He does not mind getting sticky, even if cotton candy ends up in his eyebrows, as long as people are smiling.
But Roger does more than make sweet treats.
He also started wellness workshops to help people relax and feel better. He chose to teach candle making, something he enjoys and knows well.
The workshops are calm and friendly. Neighbours can slow down, be creative, and spend time together.
Making candles may sound simple, but it has made a big difference. The workshops help people feel less alone. They help people talk, laugh, and build new friendships. They also help with mental and emotional well-being.
Roger’s story shows that one person can make a big change. By sharing his time and skills, he has helped make Bellevue Manor a stronger and happier community.
At Bellevue Manor, Roger is not just the candy man. He is someone who brings people together, one sweet moment at a time.
