Many of our residents live in high-rise buildings with balconies.

We wanted to remind you of some items that will help you make the most of your balcony, stay safe and be a good neighbour.

Do’s:

  • It is best to keep your balcony clean and clutter-free. Rodents and other pests can hide in clutter and use it to make a nest.
  • Accompany your children on the balcony. It is not safe to leave children alone on a balcony.

Don’ts:

  • NEVER throw anything off your balcony. People walking below may not see what you are doing above their heads and could get hurt by items falling from heights. That includes cigarette butts, which could pose a risk of fire.
  • Do NOT barbecue on your balcony. It can be a fire hazard.
  • Do NOT smoke on your balcony if you signed a lease after January 2014, which is when the OCH No Smoking Policy was put into effect
