We are so fortunate to have so many engaged tenants who have joined us at our virtual Tenant Talks sessions. By participating, tenants gain information about services and resources, and staff gets a chance to hear from you. 

March 10 session

We had 50 participants during our March 10 session: that’s a new record. We provided information on various topics, such as an update on My Home – Phase 2, cleaning contracts, annual and interim reviews, upcoming tax clinics and some new technology to serve tenants better.

We also heard from tenants about a variety of topics. That feedback helps us to improve the services we provide to you. 

Below you will find some points that we talked about during the session. 

My Home

OCH is consulting with other social housing providers to improve the My Home service. One of the changes planned for summer 2022 will include text notifications with information about your work orders. 

New Technology

OCH is looking at automated and live chat capabilities for our website and social media accounts to serve tenants better. We are also looking to add chat capabilities to our website and will be modernizing building entry systems and security cameras in 13 buildings. 

Cleaning Contracts

OCH Property Managers have been working with Business Services to improve the quality management of work provided by contractors such as cleaners. That work includes more regular inspections of buildings to ensure the terms of the contracts are being met. 

Annual and Interim Rent Reviews

Tara Doucet, Manager, Tenancy Administration, outlined annual rent reviews – which are a requirement for tenants to continue to receive rent-geared-to-income. She also explained when tenants should seek “interim” reviews – where there is a 20 percent change in income for the household.

Tax Clinics

Effective 2020 tenants who receive rent-geared-to-income must provide a Notice of Assessment. OCH recognized that getting taxes done might be a challenge, so we will work with volunteers and the Canada Revenue Agency to host free tax clinics at the 731 Chapel and 1365 Bank Street offices from April to September.
