Volunteer Project: 2020 wrap up

The Volunteer Engagement Program is very excited to begin working with our partners again to make improvements in OCH communities. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, the volunteer program staff worked with 110 volunteers from organizations in the greater community on projects that will improve the lives of tenants.  

Staff and Tenants 

When restrictions prevented OCH from inviting our corporate partners, program staff organized nine events with other OCH employees. Another three events with 22 tenant volunteers also took place. In total, those projects built: 

• seven raised garden beds 
• two picnic tables 
• six planter benches 
• one library 

Employee Volunteer Events 

Staff were invited to participate in four external volunteer events. Two were at the Ottawa Food Bank Farm. The Food Bank feeds nearly 40,000 people each month and has been an essential support for many families in OCH communities. Employees also volunteered at the Silver Springs Garlic Farm, which funds Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities.
