The pandemic has been difficult for many of our communities, especially among seniors. The Property Manager Todd Rheaume and his team tackled a long-time wish list for McEwen residents, a patio accessible to all.

In the spring of 2022, Property Manager Todd Rheaume set out to find a contractor to build the patio. The dedicated team assembled various Community Capital Fund items the Community Development team purchased throughout the pandemic once the patio was finished.

This included a BBQ (CCF from 2020), Swing (CCF 2019), and Adirondack Chairs (2020), and Todd added two beautiful planter benches to provide additional seating.

McEwen residents that make up the Garden committee, a small but mighty crew set to work in tandem to beautify the yard by planting beautiful perennial and annual flowers and plants. The garden and patio revamp have not only met but exceeded the expectations of the garden committee and the residents of McEwen Terrace. The beautiful space was unveiled during the first in-person BBQ since the pandemic on July 19.

Residents got an additional surprise as the Volunteer Engagement Program was able to build two raised garden boxes for the community. Beautiful flowers will be planted this year, and residents look forward to the pops of colour at the front of the building.

The garden has become the hang-out spot for residents to enjoy the peace and quiet or to chat with friends.
